Condition

Autism Spectrum Disorder

A neurodevelopmental difference affecting social communication and behaviour.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a child communicates, plays, relates to others and processes sensory information. Autism is a spectrum: every autistic child has a unique profile of strengths and support needs. With early, structured and family-centred intervention, children make meaningful progress in communication, learning and independence.

Early signs

  • Limited or no eye contact
  • Does not respond to name by 12 months
  • Delayed or absent speech
  • Repetitive movements such as hand flapping
  • Strong need for sameness and routine
  • Unusual reactions to sound, texture or light
  • Limited pretend play and peer interaction

How it is diagnosed

  • Developmental and behavioural history
  • Standardised autism assessment (ISAA / CARS / ADOS-informed)
  • Speech, OT and psychology evaluations
  • Hearing screening to rule out hearing loss

Our approach

  • At Orange, every autistic child receives a multidisciplinary plan built after a joint assessment by speech, occupational, behaviour and psychology teams. Goals are functional, measurable and reviewed monthly with parents, and therapy is delivered through play in child-friendly sensory rooms.
